Larry Rueff, DVM

WHAT IS LARRY DOING NOW? BASED IN DECATUR COUNTY, INDIANA.

Some of you have been wondering what I'm planning now that I have retired from private practice. After 40 years as a practicing veterinarian visiting hog farms, making herd visits and diagnosing and treating pigs I'm going to leave that life behind. I have been blessed and had a lot of fun, but it is time to focus on a few other things. I am not leaving the swine industry, but just going to focus on a few things that I have done in the past and enjoy. The truth of the matter is my time will be a little more predictable and I get to spend more time with Gail and the Grand kids!

THE BACKSTORY

40 years of swine practice provided many opportunities that I would never have thought I would be involved in but have really enjoyed. From 100 sow farrow to finish operations in Decatur County, to large growth and expansion in the US, I had a front row seat. In addition, the last 22 years I have been a consultant for the world’s 3rd largest swine producer in Asia with most of that work in China.

Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time. I was asked to be a director for a local bank in 1993. Over the 25 years I had a seat, we grew MainSource Financial Group, a Nasdaq listed company into a 1-billion-dollar market cap company. In 2018 we merged into First Financial Bank Corp. That experience was invaluable.

HOW I CAN HELP NOW

Three areas that I am going to keep doing are:

  • I am going to be available for presentations and strategic planning meetings. I have done a lot of these types of things and look forward to working with your company.

  • I will continue teaching my “Pig School” on the structure of the swine industry. I have educated 100’s of students, veterinarians and non-veterinarian industry employees concerning how the swine industry works in a format tailored to the makeup of the students in the class. These are usually 2-day sessions and we cover all the basics of the swine industry from facilities to costs of production and data. These sessions are particularly valuable to new employees to understand how the pork industry works.

  • I have a research demonstration barn on my farm and am going to continue to operate it. If your company has a product and or equipment that we might be able to help with, give me a call.

I'm looking forward to working with those of you I know and those who I don’t yet. Let me know if I can assist your company!
